about
Sitka, Alaska-born singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Silver Jackson releases “Perfect Mistake,” the first single from his upcoming full-length From Another World Like Starlight, out this summer on his own label Homeskillet Records.
“Perfect Mistake” enters with warm single-note guitar plucks, tinkling glockenspiel accents and muted, complementary drums as guest vocalist Benjamin Verdoes of rising Seattle indie-pop outfit Iska Dhaaf add harmonized falsettos:
“You’re right, I know it’s wrong
But some mistakes are perfect…
I just made the perfect mistake… Loving you”
Jackson’s emotive verses, delivered in a half-mumbled twang sounding something like a hybridized Northwest version of Devendra Banhart and Sufjan Stevens, detail the joys and pains of a relationship that’s simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to him while the song fully unfurls with beautifully layered tracks -- swelling strings, a vamping bassline, touches of banjo and an evocative, wailing synth line that echoes his reflective, deeply personal lyrics. “Perfect Mistake” is just a small sampling of Silver Jackson’s hazy, eclectic, experimental folk that From Another World Like Starlight will expand upon further.
The album includes additional features from Verdoes, his Iska Dhaaf bandmate Nathan Quiroga (who also plays guitar on “Perfect Mistake”) OCnotes (who contributed to and arranged it) Sax G and Samantha Crain, and is being mixed by P Smoov.
